Rexford "Rex"; Darrow, Esq.
Rexford “Rex” Darrow II was born March 10, 1971, in Coral Gables, Florida. Rex attended Coral Gables High School and was a member of both the band and the wrestling team. After graduating tenth in his class, he attended Florida State University. Stepping away from the family tradition of being educators- both his grandmothers and his mother were teachers and his father a principal-Rex majored in Criminology. The advanced placement credits he had earned in high school gave him room in his schedule to later add a second major of Political Science. While in college, Rex was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, the Honors and Scholars program, and the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Graduating Cum Laude from Florida State, Rex went on to the University of Miami School of Law. It was during his third year of law school that Rex had his first experience with the criminal justice system through an internship at the Dade County Public Defender’s Office. As a certified legal intern, Rex was able to get first hand experience through client interviews, motion argument, and participation in several felony trials. Rex again received his degree Cum Laude. During his time in law school, Rex also found the time to train in Shorinryu Karate, achieving the level of brown belt before moving on to the work force.
Rex’s first job was as an Assistant Public Defender for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit of Florida in the Naples office. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Shannon. After advancing to the felony division, Rex eventually received an offer to return home to his family in Miami and became employed by the law firm of Martinez and Gutierrez. His new practice was primarily civil in nature and Rex represented a wide variety of clients. These included Ford Motor Company, the State of Florida, Dosal Tobacco Corporation and the Tobacco Institute.
Though he enjoyed being with his family in Miami, Southwest Florida and criminal law had him hooked. Rex returned to a felony position in the Public Defender’s Office in Naples, eventually being named felony supervisor. Rex next moved on to the firm of Casassa, Mangone, Miller and Faett, a private Naples firm practicing primarily in the area of criminal law. As an associate in the firm, Rex handled numerous cases ranging from traffic infractions through serious felonies. He also handled successful appeals on both the Second DCA and Supreme Court of Florida level. Additionally, he served as President of the Collier County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and as such represented the chapter at Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers meetings. He was awarded a contract to represent half the felony contract cases in Collier County and handled it for several years. Rex has tried cases of many types, including DUI, murder, attempted murder, battery, and sexual battery.
Rex and Shannon were married on September 29, 2001. Their daughter, Heidi was born on April 12, 2007. Heidi is now walking, running, talking, and shows a frightening love for drumsticks over her baby grand piano and guitar. Rex is now a partner in the firm of Faett and Darrow. His caseload includes cases in Collier, Lee, and Hendry County. He is also a member of the Naples on the Gulf Kiwanis Club.
